BRIEF HISTORY
Hospicio de San Jose is Home to more than three hundred people of varied age and needs from cradle to twilight years. Two-thirds of its population, abandoned by their families, seek for temporary / permanent shelter. Since its foundation in October 1778, Hospicio de San Jose has been attending to the urgent needs of the indigent & mental/physically handicapped. Responding to the needs of the poor for education, a formal education instruction is being offered. Challenged by the realities around Hospicio a formalized outreach program was organized favoring the slum areas of Quiapo, San Miguel and other diversified areas sharing with them its facilities, material resources and most especially its Catholic Education.
From its foundation to the present, Hospicio has been recognized as a Catholic Welfare Institution since 1865 it has been managed by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul and presently governed by a Board of Directors under the Chairmanship of the Archbishop of Manila.
